The Electoral Grenadiers

Thanks to everyone who commented on the previous post.

It has inspired me to focus more attention on this project, and so here I present the latest unit to roll off the workbench... The Electoral Grenadiers.

Unusually for Vaubarian infantry, they wear claret main coats instead of the standard cornflower blue.

This goes back to their formative years in the 1660s when, during their momentous storming of the breech at Amstricht their coats were plastered with the blood of the fallen. The colonel immediately ordered claret coats for subsequent campaigns, and now being "Selected for Claret" is the dream of every young Vaubarian boy, and of many serving soldiers, for being called up to this regiment means joining the elite of the army.

Their current Lt Col is von Rummenigge.

Practical points: the unit includes some conversion work (the standard bearers and drummer). Figures are Front Rank. Flags are hand-painted.

    Great "historical background" story! Excellent figures. The milkmaid looks like the Foundry one...Eureka do a nice milking set too. The Front Rank figures really do look the part for this era! Great work, Cheers, Rohan.

      Thanks Rohan. I was debating whether to go with claret coats for these, or sick with the standard Vaubarian blue. The idea for the back-story came to me whilst out on a walk, and that convinced me to give it a go. Glad I did.

      Rather like the Danish Grenaderkorpset of the WSS/GNW era and later the Saxon Leibgarde Grenadiers of the Saxon WAS/SYW era, so good "historical" precedent too (not that this is ever essential for Imagi-Nations!) :-D :-D

    Smartly done. I particularly liked you putting them in different settings - the scenery is quite inspiring and adds to the atmosphere. I hope their next, your first, foray with them onto the battlefield doesn't make the current Colonel think the coat colour is a good choice. Though I guess a lot of casualties is preferable to a rapid move to the rear when everyone can tell at a glance who's running away.
