How long?

How long?

Well, several months. I know, I know!!

Whilst I have been quiet on here, I have been indulging in plenty of hobby activity, and I will bring things up to date over the coming days with a couple of posts, I promise.

First up, a few things I have been painting, starting with some Vikings for Midgard.

The commander of the army, Ragnam the Wrathful.

His Hearthgard:

His warriors:

The second contingent is led by Orik Halfdan, so named because of his, erm, stature. I used one of the rather lovely Ragnarok Dwarf figures for this chap.

His Hearthgard:

A unit of his warriors:

The army will get a third contingent and some skirmishers soon.

Figures are all Victrix, with LBMS shield transfers and banners.

As you can see, I have gone for each 'unit' on a single base as, for me, in terms of aesthetics, I think this is an inherent attraction of the rules.

Next up, some plastic Cataphracts.

We've been having a few games of Hail Caesar, and I rather like the rules... they've given us some free-flowing, fast, games with twists and turns, and some memorable moments. I'll post some pictures from those games over the coming week or so.

Meantime, hope all are well, and your hobby is thriving too!

  1. Lovely new units, Phil! I am taken with your vikings especially. "Kjempebra"" or "Jattebra!" as they might say in Norwegian or Swedish. Something akin to "Hugely good!"

    Kind Regards,

  3. Lovely work Phil, really nice units, like the idea of single basing, looks right.

    1. Thanks Donnie. My basing is always 'project dependent'. Some games and armies lend themselves to single basing that's for sure. Best regards. Phil

  4. Good to have you "back". The Dark Ages are a favourite period for me so I enjoyed seeing these. I've had fun with the Midgard rules and have bought the new campaign supplement with a wealth of scenarios so hope to see some Midgard action again soon though at the moment investing most of my time painting 16th century Koreans.

    1. Thanks Stephen. Midgard certainly seems to have the right flavour for Dark Age gaming. I'm looking forward to getting the Vikings finished, and some Saxons too at some point, and getting a game going. Best regards. Phil

  5. Lovely, is that 100mm basing? The banding on the cataphract lances. Is beautifully executed.
