Ottoman commander

Thanks to all who commented so positively on the previous post. Much appreciated.

Continuing with the Eastern Renaissance theme, here is the Ottoman command group I completed recently.

Figures are The Assault Group. Flag by Mark Allen.... another of his 'gems'.

Considering names for this particular Ottoman personality... all suggestions in comments please!

  1. The embroidery on the commander's jacket is marvelous.

  2. Lovely command stand; like the detailed work on the coat. I went lazy with my commander - just a plain coat.

There a list of viziers here... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ottoman_grand_viziers
One was called Alaeddin Pasha, perhaps do an attendant with a lamp for him to magic up a victory ?

    1. Thx Tidders. That's a useful list of Viziers. In the end, i have plumped for a made up name... all to be revealed in due course. Best rgds. Phil

  4. Really lovely command vignette, the painting is of an exceptional standard and the flag is quite superb! Alas I have not the wit to suggest a name for the commander but I am sure someone will come up with a goodie!

  5. Marvellous! The thought of "doing" an Ottoman or Byzantine or Sassanid army with all of that intricate embroidery brings me out in a cold sweat so entirely impressed! Farqs

    1. Thanks Farqs. It was not as difficult as I thought it was going to be. Just need to get in the frame of mind to do it, and not worry too much about it. Best rgds. Phil

  6. Superb work there Phil! For a name how about Abdul the Bulbul Emir, from the well known song used in beer advert years ago? Then you could have Count Ivan Skavinsky Skavar as his nemesis!

  7. Unless you frequent a Turkish barber and can ask for his name, I like Steve J's suggestion though I think it's been used before.
For a different literary vibe, how about Ferood or Feraburz [uncle of the king] who are the CinC and 2ic of the Persian host in Matthew Arnold's great poem "Sohrab and Rustum".
Like others I was also struck by the embroidery as my daughter, Arwen, has been painting embroidered kimonos and sashes on her 28mm figures.
