A new contingent

Thanks to everyone who commented on the previous post. Much appreciated.

It has spurred me on to speed paint a new contingent for The Wars of the Vaubarian Succession... a brigade of Pils Holstein infantry.

One of the features of the early 18C wars is the polyglot nature of the armies, with contingents being provided by numerous states to make up the force compositions at various times. So, I felt it appropriate to do the same in my imaginary world too. And, after all, Pils Holstein does feature in so many of my projects, so why not this one?!

I have used the Front Rank Danish figures for the period, and simply painted them to represent the Pils Holstein battalions:
IR 1 Leibgarde,
IR 2 Wolfsheim, IR 3 Braunschweig

At present, it is unclear from the diplomatic wranglings which side Pils Holstein will take in the hostilities, but time will tell.

An enjoyable painting output for April, since when I've been working on a few more things...

  2. Hi Jonathan. I worked on the brigade over 3.5 weeks in total. I kept the painting simple and didn't over-highlight any of the main colours, as you can see. Best regards. Phil

    1. Thanks Christopher... I used Dark Prussian Blue, but it wasn't quite dark enough for what I had in mind, so did a very thin black wash over the top. Cheers. Phil

    1. Thanks Alan. Perfidious Pils-Holstein will probably initially join Astrovia until the latter get more units, but after that, it's anyone's guess!!

  9. A super addition to the mix, having a third party (or fourth party ...) allows for more variety of troop types etc

The chap with the spontoon is going to get his feet wet ... :)

  11. A simple uniform but so expertly presented it looks very smart indeed. Very well done as usual Phil, a treat to see. Appearing at this year's Cotswold Wargames day maybe?

  12. Phil,

I agree with James; the dark blue you used is very effective, and makes for a handsome uniform.

Would you mind sharing what color/paint you used?

    Lovely flags, too.

    Thank you for sharing.

  13. A marvellous addition, Phil. I also really like the dark blue coats. Whenever I see Pils-Holstein, I immediately think of beer...can't for the life of me think why? just a thought..perhaps the brigade could use a beer wagon and a sutler rather like the ones in Foundry's SYWP036 - Prussian Camp Followers?? ;-) :-D Might give a morale bonus or rallying bonus?? Cheers, Rohan.

    1. Good idea Rohan. I do have a few of the Foundry camp followers set lying around somewhere... Might get round to adding more PH wagons etc in due course. Best regards. Phil
